If you have never held a driving licence before you will need to apply for a provisional licence.

You must complete driving licence application form D1 (previously D750), available from most Post Office® branches, and send it with the appropriate fee, original documentation confirming your identity, and a passport sized colour photograph taken against a plain light background, to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD or you may be able to use the Post Office® Checking Service.

The provisional driving licence is normally issued within 15 working days.

The cost of the provisional driving licence is £50.
